This is professional work developing, coordinating, and supervising all communications and public affairs efforts for the Office of the Comptroller. Areas of responsibility will include written materials, media relations, and various internal/external means of communication. Incumbent will facilitate all aspects of press conferences, including coordination of all participants and preparation of equipment; will coordinate and/or assist in coordination of public relations activities such as public appearances, speaking engagements and special events; will compose press releases, news articles, features, speeches and television scripts; may act as department spokesperson, answer questions from the press, present information to news media and the public, give presentations to groups; develop marketing and promotional materials such as brochures, publications, news letters, videos and television programming.

A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field; plus at least three years of full time paid experience in public relations or journalism with strong communication and presentation skills; OR, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
