Declare Your Personal Property

Declare your personal property online, by mail, or in person by April 1st and avoid a 10% assessment penalty.

Overview

Individual Personal Property Declarations are mailed in January.

Electronic filing is available from late January to early October. Dates may vary.

All City of St. Louis taxpayers with tangible property are mandated by State law to file a list of all taxable tangible personal property by April 1st of each year with the Assessor's Office. The assessment is made as of January 1 for the current year's tax and is predicated on 33 1/3% of true value.

Personal Property Declarations are due by April 1st of each year. Declarations may be filed in person, online or by mail after the deadline. Penalties will apply to declarations filed after the April 1 deadline.

First-time declarations must be submitted on a paper form. You can switch to online filing after your initial declaration.

Steps to declare on paper form:

  1. Complete the Tangible Personal Property Tax Return form mailed to you and update as needed, or if a form was not mailed to you or you do not have the mailed form, download the appropriate blank form(s) - individual or business and update as needed.
  2. Submit completed forms:

In Person — City Hall, Room 115, 1200 Market St, St. Louis, MO 63103. Drop off at the counter or dropbox. Receipts available on request.
