Apply for a New Commercial Pool Permit

Instructions for applying for a new commercial pool permit to ensure it meets sanitary requirements.

Overview

Public and commercial swimming pools in the City must have a building permit, plus approval from the Department of Health to ensure that the pool meets minimum sanitation requirements. This is a one time permit for allowing construction or remodeling, and is not a permit to operate.

Read below for instructions to apply for the construction permit from the Health Department.

The full swimming pool regulations can be found here.

Preparation

Obtain a Building Permit

While you apply for the Health Department permit, you will need to obtain a building permit from the Building Division.

Assemble Paperwork

You will need to submit the following:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. Your building permit.
  3. Specs for your automated chlorinator.
  4. Drawings and plans of the pool site. Review the guidelines for those plans here.

Instructions

Submit all the items above to health@stlouis-mo.gov.

What to Expect

After the Health Department has received your request, they will follow up with you to discuss any further questions they have.

Once the Health Department determines that you meet the guidelines, a letter of approval is signed and issued by our commissioner.

Our pool inspectors go out monthly to test public pools and spas while they are open.
