Renew Business License and Pay License and Tax Fees
Renew and pay business licenses online, in person, or by mail, and file returns.
Overview
If you are an existing business license holder (you filed for a City of St. Louis business license in a previous license year), and you have received a renewal or payment notice from our office, you can process your Business License Renewal(s) and payment online on the St. Louis PayIt portal.

Preparation
- Locate the seven-digit common document number (Example: AL1234567) on the top left corner of the renewal application you received from our office. You will need to have this information in order to proceed.
- Confirm that you will be completing one of the transactions below to renew and make a payment. Forms are available here if you need them.

Instructions
Online renewals can be made through PayIt St. Louis. You will need your common document number to renew and proceed to payment.
- Go to PayitStlouis.com
- Follow the prompts to log in, sign up or continue as a guest.
- Select "License Renewal" and the renewal type.
- Enter and search for the common document number and proceed with renewal and payment.
- Payment can be made with credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) or eCheck. Processing fees will apply (see fee section below).

Fees
Fees are associated with credit card transactions (Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express) and e-checks. These fees are charged by the online service processor, not the License Collector's Office.
- For credit card transactions, a 2.45% processing fee is charged.
- For e-checks, a $1.95 flat fee is charged.
- PayIt will charge a $3.00 processing fee per transaction.
There are no processing fees for In Person payments using cash, check or money order.
What to Expect
Once the renewal application and payment are received, our office will need to obtain certain clearances required for your business type in order to issue your renewed business license. The license will be mailed to the address on file.
Examples of possible required clearances are (but not limited to):
- Collector of Revenue
- Building Division
- Health Department
- Police approval for secondhand merchandise, cell phone sales, pawn shops, etc.
- Missouri Department of Revenue - Sales Tax Division
- Board of Public Safety
