Overview
August 15, 2025: The City has ended alley recycling due to ineffectiveness and high costs, and will instead grow its efforts toward the collection of trash. Constituents with alley recycling dumpsters should use our Drop-Off Recycling Locations. Roll cart recycling will continue.
The City of St. Louis offers Single Stream Recycling Service to city residents.
Single Stream Recycling Services are limited to:
- paper
- plastic bottles and containers
- metal food and beverage cans
- glass bottles and jars
- cardboard
- food and beverage cartons
We appreciate your interest and participation in the City of St. Louis' Recycling Service.
Preparation
Locate your blue bin:
- Recycling using nearby dropoff locations.
- Recycling Using the City's Blue Roll carts
- Report missing or problems with roll carts
Know Your Pick-up Schedule:
- Find schedules for your address by entering your address in the address look up.
- Regular pick-up dates are generally posted on roll carts (e.g., 1st Monday, 2nd Monday, etc.).
- Read more about collection schedules and holiday adjustments.
- Schedule changes are posted on the news feed.
Instructions
- Collect and sort your trash in to the allowed materials.
- Place your sorted recyclable material in the correct Blue Bin.

What goes in the blue bin?
Visit Saint Louis City Recycles for details and photos of what can and cannot be placed in the blue City recycling dumpsters or roll-carts.
Fees
$14/month per unit /residence.
Covered by your solid waste services fee collected quarterly on your water bill.
What to Expect
Schedules
- City refuse trucks will empty roll-out carts on a Monday/Thursday or a Tuesday/Friday schedule, depending on location.
- Pick-up schedule changes due to emergencies or inclement weather will be posted on our twitter feed at @StlStreets on X/Twitter.
Service Frequency
- Solid waste pick-up at least once per week.
- Yard waste pick-up once per week.
- Bulky items and "B.O.A.T." pick-up once per month.
- Transfer station drop-off locations for residents (one standard truck load) once per month.
