Alley Recycling Service is Suspended

Updated: January 24, 2022

The alley container single stream recycling program is currently suspended due to staffing shortages.

All items left in blue alley recycling containers will be picked up as trash until the staffing shortage is over.

Residents who use blue alley recycling containers may bring their recycling to their nearest recycling dropoff location.

Roll cart recycling continues as normal.

Statement on resuming services

Resuming alleyway recycling collection is a top priority for the Refuse Division, and the division continues to work to hire and make necessary repairs to resume alleyway collection. Residents are encouraged to continue bringing their recycling to the more than 25 dropoff locations throughout the City. Recycling pickup at these locations, as well as from residents with individual roll carts, will continue as usual.

While progress on hiring has been made with the institution of a $3,000 hiring incentive, the City continues to work aggressively to hire for vacant positions. The City has added an additional contract to help facilitate much-needed repairs to the City’s existing fleet refuse collection trucks. The Refuse Division will continue to work diligently towards resuming alleyway recycling pickup for residents across St. Louis.
